Severe Weather Watch

Heavy rain and gales for many parts of New Zealand

An active front will cross the country from the west today and early Monday morning. The front is forecast to bring rain to many places, and a Heavy Rain Warning is in force for the ranges of Westland and Buller, plus the Canterbury Headwaters. Gale northwesterlies are expected ahead of the front, followed by west to southwest gales in exposed places. Meanwhile, a low on this front crosses the lower South Island this afternoon, and then becomes slow-moving. As a result a period of south to southeast rain is forecast for the south and east of the South Island.
